In search for Adji, Collier County Sheriff's Office produces video

The Collier County Sheriff's Office is asking for the public's help as the search for 6-year-old Adji Desir continues.

CCSO has produced a video about the case and the agency is asking that everyone post it to their blogs, Facebook, MySpace and other social networking sites and e-mail the link to it to everyone in their address book. The video's release today coincides with the six-month anniversary of Adji's disappearance.

The goal is to get the video to as many people as possible in an effort to find someone who has information that will help investigators.

Adji went missing while playing near his home in Immokalee's Farm Worker Village. Hundreds of deputies from CCSO and other law enforcement agencies from around the state conducted an exhaustive ground search and tracked leads. The case was profiled in the media both locally and nationally. It remains active today but investigators need fresh leads that will help them bring Adji home.

Anyone with information on Adji's disappearance is asked to call CCSO at 239-252-9300 or to remain anonymous and be eligible for a reward call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-780-8477.

IMMOKALEE — A nationally known psychic is heading to Southwest Florida to do her part in the search for Adji Desir.

Psychic Gale St. John was slated to arrive in Immokalee Wednesday night and will start searching today for 6-year-old Adji, who has been missing from Farm Workers Village since Jan. 10.

In an interview, St. John said she would be arriving at Orlando International Airport Wednesday afternoon and then she’d drive to Immokalee.

“Everything is taken care of,” said St. John before catching her flight to Florida. “We got a place to stay.”

However St. John, who is traveling with her daughter Tamara, said she has not reached out to Adji’s family.

“We don’t seek out the family to bother them,” she said, adding that she respects the family’s privacy, but that they should feel free to contact her.

Also unaware of St. John’s pending visit — the Collier County Sheriff’s Office.

“We were unaware of her visit,” said Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Karie Partington, adding the department has had no contact with St. John. “But we will be trying to contact her.”

In an interview Wednesday, Partington said the agency is still actively looking for Adji.

“We’re open to any ideas that may assist us in locating him,” said Partington.

In spite of some discounting her abilities, St. John has appeared on Geraldo Rivera’s “At Large,” “Larry King Live,” HLN’s “Nancy Grace” and “Psychic Detectives” on Court TV. St. John claimed to have located Caylee Anthony’s body months before authorities did.

St. John will remain in Immokalee through Sunday, when she is scheduled to travel to the Satsuma area to search for 5-year-old Haleigh Cummings, who has been missing since Feb. 10.

She will also be posting updates to her Twitter.com site — called twittering — throughout the whole experience.

St. John will remain in Satsuma through April 23, before heading back to her home in Ohio.

In a written statement, Debra Brink said St. John would conduct a “blind-drive” for each case. In essence, a blind drive is when St. John starts driving from the last point where a person was seen and uses her gift to lead her in the right direction. Once the drive is done, she will do a thorough physical search of each area.

COLLIER COUNTY: The Collier County Sheriff's Office will host a child safety event on Monday to honor National Missing Children's Day.
The event will serve as a public reminder to renew efforts to reunite missing children with their families, remember those who are still missing and make child protection a national priority.

The Collier County community will remember these local children who have gone missing:

She was 5 feet 6 inches and 130 pounds with light brown hair and hazel eyes when she disappeared. She has a scar on her left hand and a birthmark on the back of her neck.

Darwin Daniel Garcia, 16, of Immokalee ran away from home on June 13, 2008. He is 4 feet 10 inches tall and 140 pounds with black hair and brown eyes. Authorities believe he may be in Georgia, Tennessee or North Carolina. He may be in the company of a family member.

ADJI

Recent Newshttp://www.winknews.com/news/local/50509357.html

IMMOKALEE, Fla. - Six months after 6-year-old Adji Desir disappeared from outside his grandmother's Immokalee home, clues are drying up, but the boy's family isn't giving up.

Marie Neida has a brand new baby girl at home, but for six months, her first born, 6-year-old Adji, has been missing.

"I'm sad, I'm scared," Neida says.

She named her new born Adjiani, after her brother, but rather than being a namesake, Neida wishes Adji was home being a big brother.

"Adji don't see your sister, don't play with her," she says.

To this day, Neida believes someone took Adji from Farm Workers Village the night he disappeared.

The Collier County Sheriff's Office has investigated thousands of tips in the six months since Adji disappeared. So far none have led them to the boy.

Lead investigator Detective Ellen Kastner says he could be anywhere, even right here in Southwest Florida.

"Its possible he could have been taken out of state or out of country. He could be anywhere at this point," Collier County Sheriff's Det. Ellen Kastner says.

While kidnapping is a focus of the investigation, investigators are still looking into the possibility that Adji simply wandered off. Either way, the mysterious disappearance has people living in Farm Workers Village keeping a close eye on their children and grandchildren.

"When they're here with me, I'm out here with them or I have them inside the house. I'm not gonna let nothing happen to them, not if I can help it," Guadalupe Lopez says.

Adji's mother carries a picture of her missing son with her and his new sister everyday, hanging on to the hope that this family will be complete again soon.

"The police find Adji," Marie Neida hopes.

If you have any information on Adji Desir's whereabouts, call the Collier Sheriff's Office at 239-252-9300.

Authorities: Leads drying up in missing boy case

Thursday, 10.15.09
The Associated Press

IMMOKALEE, Fla. -- Authorities say leads have become scant in the case of a boy who disappeared from a farm workers village in Immokalee nine months ago.

In conjunction with Adji Desir's 7th birthday Thursday, authorities announced a nationwide campaign they hope will turn up new information about his whereabouts.

Desir's photo will be on national advertising fliers mailed to 75 million homes in November and December.

The boy was last seen playing outside his grandmother's house on Jan. 10. There has been no sign of him since.

Collier County sheriff's Sgt. Ken Becker said leads have slowed to a trickle. He said just two have come in during the past three months and neither was helpful.

Search for Adji: Birthday sparks new plans to find 7-year-old

October 15, 2009
By Collier County Sheriff's Office

Today is Adji Desir’s seventh birthday.

Adji was last seen playing outside of his grandmother’s house in Farm Worker Village in Immokalee on Jan. 10, 2009, while his mother was at work. There has been no sign of him since.

The Collier County Sheriff’s Office is once again reaching out to the public for tips that could help in bringing the developmentally disabled boy home.

“We’re still hopeful to reunite him with his parents,” said Sgt. Ken Becker of CCSO’s Major Crimes Bureau. “But as time goes on it will depend on assistance from the public and that one person who has that little bit of information that will lead us to him.”

Next month the search for Adji will extend to the mailboxes of millions of residents across the United States.

Adji’s photo will be featured on national direct-mail advertising fliers to be distributed to 75 million homes across the United States during the week of Nov. 8 through the week of Dec. 13, according to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children®️ (NCMEC).

NCMEC is partnering with Valassis Inc, one of the nation’s leading media and marketing services companies, and the U. S. Postal Service in distributing the fliers as part of Valassis’ Have You Seen Me?®️ picture program.

The fliers will be distributed weekly by region. They are scheduled to arrive in Florida mail boxes the week of Nov. 15.

“A picture is the most important tool we have in the search for a missing child,” said Ernie Allen, NCMEC president and CEO. “Please take the time to carefully review Adji’s picture and the pictures of other missing children. You may have the one piece of information that we need to help them come home.”

Adji’s disappearance has received national exposure, including on CNN’s “Nancy Grace” show and on “America’s Most Wanted,” which is profiling the case on its Web site at http://www.amw.com/missing_children/brief.cfm?id=62497

CCSO has produced a video about the case and the agency is asking that everyone post it to their blogs, Facebook, MySpace and other social networking sites and e-mail the link to it to everyone in their address book. The video's release in July coincided with the six-month anniversary of Adji's disappearance.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Collier County Sheriff’s Office at 774-4434, or if you wish to remain anonymous call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-780- TIPS (8477).

Birthday passes for boy, 7, missing since January
Investigator says leads have fallen off

October 16, 2009
MARK S. KRZOS

The questions investigators had in January following the disappearance of Immokalee boy Adji Desir still have no answers.

That's what Sgt. Ken Becker of the Collier County Sheriff's Office's Major Crimes Bureau's Exploitation Unit said Thursday - Adji's 7th birthday.

"I have no idea what happened to Adji. I wish I did," Becker said. "The investigation is nine months old and the number of tips and leads have slowed down dramatically. Over the last three months, only two new leads have come in."

Those tips were fruitless, Becker said.

Adji was last seen playing outside his grandmother's house in Farm Worker Village in Immokalee on Jan. 10. He was wearing a blue shirt with thin yellow stripes, blue shorts with flamingoes down the side and black and gray
sneakers.

Despite national media exposure of the case on CNN's "Nancy Grace" and "America's Most Wanted," there has been no sign of Adji.

The Collier County Sheriff's Office, the FBI and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement are not giving up.

"With the recoveries of a lot of missing children ... we're still hoping that he can be reunited with his family," said Becker, who frequently meets with Adji's family.

"They feel like I do - that he will come home some day."
Investigators are now hoping a nationwide information-seeking blitz may lead to more tips. Next month the search for Adji will extend to the mailboxes of millions across the nation.

Adji's photo will be featured on national direct-mail advertising fliers to be distributed to 75 million homes nationwide during the week of Nov. 8 through Dec. 13, according to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children.
The fliers will be distributed weekly by region and are scheduled to appear in Florida mailboxes the week of Nov. 15.

"A picture of the child is the big thing," Becker said. "It may spark a memory. If it does, hopefully someone will make the decision to call."
A $23,500 reward from Crime Stoppers and a $10,000 reward from the FBI is available to anyone who can provide solid information as to Adji's whereabouts and safe return.

Anyone with information is urged to call the Collier County Sheriff's Office at 774-4434 or Crime Stoppers at 800-780-TIPS.

Candlelight vigil held for Adji Desir

Oct 17, 2009

COLLIER COUNTY: A candlelight vigil was held Saturday night for Adji Desir who has been missing since January 10th 2009.

The vigil was held by a group of women from 'Families United To Bring Our Children Home'.

The Florida group is known for traveling the state to hold vigils for missing children, and each woman in the group has their own missing child.

They arrived in Collier County just days after Adji Desir's seventh birthday.

Adji has been described as developmentally disabled with the mind of a 2-year-old.

He disappeared from outside his grandmother's Farm Worker Village home at 814 Grace St.

Investigators called off the ground search for Adji on January 18th.

Earlier this week the Collier County Sheriff's Office announced that 75 million fliers would be going out nationwide in the mail with Adjis picture on it.

The family made it clear on Saturday that after ten months they are not giving up hope.

The Collier County Sheriff's Office is still taking tips and information in this case, if you have any information contact Southwest Florida Crime Stoppers at 800-780-TIPS

When Jaycee Dugard came home after 18 years, she didn't just bring joy to her own family, she gave hope to parents of other missing children. "To think Elizabeth Smart, Shawn Hornbeck and Jaycee Dugard are the total of long-term missing children out there is foolish," says Ernie Allen, president of the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children, who points out that there are nearly 800 unsolved stranger-abduction cases.
Most kids who are rescued are located within a matter of hours or days. But below are seven missing children whose cases are still open—and who may be alive. Allen urges people to study the age-progressed photos and call 1-800-THE-LOST if they recognize the victims. "Somebody out there knows what happened to these children," he says. Adds Jaycee's aunt Tina Dugard: "It's a happiness you don't expect. I want people to know there is hope."

2009's top stories: Murder, economic mayhem and a missing child

3. Adji Desir disappears in Immokalee

Immokalee resident Adji Desir was last seen playing outside of his grandmother’s house in Farm Worker Village in Immokalee on Jan. 10, while his mother was at work.

A week-long intensive search by roughly 300 law enforcement officials — 100 of which were Collier County deputies — with ATV’s, bloodhounds and boats did not find the developmentally-challenged boy.

Collier County Sheriff’s deputies continue to follow-up on any tips as to the whereabouts of Adji, who is now 7.

After initially receiving between 400 and 500 tips soon after Adji’s disappearance, the number of leads coming in fell to just a trickle in October.

Adji’s disappearance garnered national attention and was featured on America’s Most Wanted in January, February and most recently on Dec. 5.
He was also one of six missing children appearing on the cover of People magazine’s “Vanished Without a Trace: Heartbreak & Hope,” issue in November, which featured the stories of young people who disappeared in 2009.

Officials are working to keep Adji in people’s thoughts.

One year later - Adji Desir still missing

His picture still hangs on the wall of his home and Adji's mother, Maria Neida, says there is not a day that goes by in which she doesn't think he'll come home.

"I miss him so much," said Neida. "I still cry, cry, cry every day - every day."

"It's very hard because every day she still think about it," said his stepfather Antale Elant.

Developmentally Disabled Fla. Boy Adji Desir Disappears
http://www.amw.com/missing_children/case.cfm?id=62497

Police say Adji Desir, a developmentally disabled child who went missing on January 10, 2009, may attempt to hide from those trying to find him.

The Collier County, Fla., Sheriff's Office and more than 100 officers from nearby agencies have desperately searched for Adji Desir, a 6-year-old boy who has been missing since January 2009.

Police say Adji, whose nickname is "Ji Ji" (pronounced "Gee Gee"), was at his grandmother’s home for the day while his mother was working. The boy's grandmother lives in Farm Workers Village in Immokalee, Fla.

Adji was last seen around 5:15 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 10, 2009. Investigator Maria Butrico with the Collier County Sheriff's Office told AMW that Adji went outside to play with some friends and at some point, he disappeared.

Search crews canvassed the area, and a billboard with Adji's photo and description is scheduled to go up on the corner of Main and First Streets in downtown Immokalee.

Police are hoping that Adji just wandered off and is lost, but they have to look into the possibility that the child was abducted. Police have not found any evidence to indicate that there was any foul play.

Adji was last seen wearing a blue shirt with thin yellow stripes, blue shorts with pink flamingos down the sides, and gray and black sneakers.

Police say it's important to note that Adji is developmentally disabled. He understands Creole, but cannot speak it. He is only able to speak about five words in English.

If you've seen missing child Adji Desir, call our Hotline at 1-800-CRIME-TV right now.
