New flier asks residents if they saw Horman, Spicher
Story Published: Aug 10, 2010

PORTLAND, Ore. - Investigators working on the Kyron Horman case released a new flier Tuesday that asks residents near Kyron's elementary school if they saw his stepmother, Terri Horman, and her close friend, DeDe Spicher the day he disappeared.

The two-page flier includes pictures of Horman, Spicher and the white pickup truck Horman was driving on June 4 the day Kyron vanished, and in it police ask residents if they saw the two or the pickup between the hours of 9:45 a.m. and 1 p.m. that day.

Police hope stepmom's photo will help spark more tips for Kyron Horman investigation
Published: Friday, June 18, 2010

Kyron Horman's stepmother was the last known person to see the 7-year-old on the day that he disappeared, said Capt. Jason Gates, and authorities hope her photo might help jog the memories of other witnesses.

The Multnomah County Sheriff's Office is distributing a flier showing photos of Terri Moulton Horman and the type of pickup she is thought to have driven on June 4, the day the second-grader disappeared from Skyline School.

"Sometimes in jogging peoples memories, sometimes it's the other things about that day or what was going on around them that will jog their memory with anything else they might have seen with regard to Kyron," Gates said.

Terri Horman tries to lay low in Roseburg

Story Published: May 2, 2011 at 11:25 PM PDT

Story Updated: May 2, 2011 at 11:28 PM PDT

Terri Horman near her home in Roseburg, Ore.
ROSEBURG, Ore. - June 4 will mark one year since Kyron Horman disappeared from his elementary school in Northwest Portland. Just shy of that somber anniversary, police have yet to name a formal suspect in the case.

Still, one person has remained in the spotlight: Kyron’s stepmother Terri Horman.

Horman brought Kyron to Skyline Elementary that fateful morning, the last place he was seen. After that day, reports swirled of a failed lie detector test and she went through a very public breakup from Kyron’s father, Kaine Horman.

Both Kaine and Kyron’s biological mother, Desiree Young, pointed the finger of blame at Terri Horman.

Since then, Horman has returned to her hometown of Roseburg, Ore. Her life in Roseburg is much different now. Neighbors said Horman rarely leaves the home where she grew up.

In February, Young visited Roseburg and asked businesses there to shun Terri. She also asked neighbors to constantly question Horman about Kyron.

“We know that Terri blamed Kyron for her failing marriage and wanted him out of her life. She put that all in writing,” Young said. “She had a severe, severe hatred for Kyron.”

Two posters with Kyron’s face on them are just a few blocks from Horman’s current home.

A handful of fliers are also posted within a mile of her home, including in a strip mall.

Andy Knutson has one in his window at the Vitamin Market.

“It’s just a small thing that anyone can do to help find him,” he said.

Cherisse Beck also put a flier up in her store, although it isn’t the same poster that Young was pushing.

“I’m not going to assign blame because we don’t know the facts,” she said. “We don’t know the truth about what really happened.”

Mindy McFerrin’s sister knows Terri Horman, but she doesn’t blame Young for putting on the pressure.

“As a parent I can’t imagine,” McFerrin said. “I would do anything and everything against the person of interest to basically flush them out.”

A crew from KATU News recently caught up with Terri Horman as she left her Roseburg home to go for a walk.

We asked if she was finally willing to speak about what happened the day Kyron disappeared, why she stopped talking with investigators, if her attorney was still advising her not to speak with reporters and if she had any statement for the public?

She refused to acknowledge any of the questions.

Without passing judgment, Horman’s Roseburg neighbors wonder why she has been so silent and absent from the searches for Kyron.

“It if was my little boy I wouldn’t give up looking for him,” Beck said.

“I wish that she would come forward. All we can do is keep praying for the family,” McFerrin said.

Almost a year later, people still leave signs and messages at the “wall of hope” set up outside Skyline Elementary School.

There are also 46 separate Facebook pages with more than 100,000 collective followers where people share their thoughts, prayers and opinions about Kyron’s case.

Horman, Vaughn families keep missing children cases in public eye

The Portland Tribune, May 1, 2011
The families of two missing Portland-area children are working to keep the public involved in the cases.

Kaine Horman, father of Kyron Horman, passed out bracelets, buttons and T-shirts with his son’s picture on them during a consignment sale at the Expo Center on Friday.

The 7-year-old boy has been missing since June 4, 2010. He was last seen at Skyline School in rural northwest Multnomah County with his stepmother, Terri Horman.

Kaine Horman says that even though the one-year anniversary of Kyron’s disappearance is nearing, he isn’t giving the date much thought, but is working to keep his son’s picture and case in the public view.

Investigators have focused on Terri Horman’s activities on the day Kyron disappeared, but no one has been named a suspect or a person of interest in the case. Terri Horman has not been accused of a crime in the case. She is living in Roseburg with her parents, pending a divorce from Kaine Horman.

The family of Yashanee Vaughn has scheduled a number of events related to her disappearance. The 14-year-old girl has not been seen since March 9. Parrish Bennette, 16, has been charged with murder and manslaughter in the case, but Yashanee’s body has not been found.

Although police suspect other people were involved in the disappearance, no one else has been arrested or even named as a person of interest.

A barbecue fundraiser to support the search for the girl is from 1:30 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, May 1, next to the Greater Solid Rock Church, 1725 N.E. Dekum St.

Next, a Gospel Celebration of Life for Yashanee Vaughn, is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. on Friday, May 6, at the Maranatha Church, 4222 N.E. 12th Ave.

After 28,000 police hours and $1.4m, Kyron Horman's mother marks an agonising year since he vanished - and pleads with main suspect in the case to break her silence.

Today marks an agonising milestone for the mother of Kyron Horman - it has been one year to date since her son mysteriously vanished from his elementary school in Portland, Oregon.
Desiree Young has been desperately searching for her son since June 4, 2010 - when he was last seen by his stepmother at Skyline Elementary - but investigators have yet to find physical evidence leading to his whereabouts.

Now, the state task force searching for the boy is set to be closed, after investing a reported 28,000 hours and $1.4million in the investigation.

Daily reminder: Desiree Young, with the help of the local church and billboard company, has erected signs to her son Kyron Horman, who disappeared from his school in June last year

'Wall of hope': A weathered note hangs on a cyclone fence in front of the Tualatin Valley Fire and Rescue station 368, in Portland, Oregon. Kyron's case is still being investigated by police

Last photo: Kyron is seen in front of his science project at the Skyline School. He vanished shortly after this photo was taken

Multnomah County Sheriff Dan Stanton told local newspaper The Oregonian the task force would be disbanded on July 1.

One detective will be left on the case to continue the investigation, once led by a team of state investigators, prosecutors and members of the FBI.

Those investigators taken off the force could return, however, if there is a major lead, he said.

Stanton told the newspaper: 'Criminal investigations don't go away. This will continue. It will not be a cold case.'
The news comes weeks after Kyron's mother arranged for a large billboard to be erected by the side of the road in Roseburg, Oregon.

It shows seven-year-old Kyron Horman, with his close-cropped blonde hair and glasses - his face forever frozen in an adorable smile.
The message written above the boy's pictures is simple yet determined: 'I promise I will find you. I will never stop. Love, Momma.'
The signs - donated by Athey Creek Christian Fellowship in Wilsonville and the billboard company - aim to keep the case fresh in the minds of locals, but also to play on the conscience of stepmother Terri Moulton Horman - a suspect in the ongoing disappearance case.
Moulton Horman has been a virtual recluse in her parents' home in Roseburg after sensational claims made during the investigation.
Mrs Young told The Oregonian last month: 'I want her to know that we're not going away.'
Kyron Horman was last seen on the morning of June 4, during a science fair at Skyline School.
Moulton Horman said she dropped the boy off at school and last saw him walking off to this first class.
But the boy never made it to his class and was listed as absent from school that day.
When Moulton Horman arrived to pick Kyron up that afternoon, the alarm was raised. He has not been seen since.
Despite a major police investigation, which has seen investigators painstakingly searching wide areas around Roseburg, no leads have been uncovered.
The motions of Moulton Horman the day of Kyron's disappearance have been of interest to the police from the outset.
Kyron's biological parents have pleaded with Moulton Horman to reveal everything she is suspected of knowing about the case, but police say she 'has been cooperative...and other times she has not'.

Biological parents: Kaine Horman and Desiree Young at a press conference in July last year. Both are struggling to rebuild their lives after their son's disappearance - but neither have given up hope

Recluse: Terri Moulton Horman, stepmother of Kyron, has been holed up in her parents Roseburg home since the disappearance

During a police interview she said she left the school at 8.45am, running errands at local shops until about 10am.

For the next hour and a half, she says she drove her 19-month-old daughter around town in an attempt to use the motion of the vehicle to soothe the toddler's ear ache.
The next time her story can be corroborated is 11:39am, when she arrived at her local gym.
By 1.21pm she had arrived home, because she posted photos of Kyron at the science fair on her Facebook page.
At 3:30pm, Moulton Horman and Kyron's father Kaine Horman went to meet the school bus to pick Kyron up, but he was not on board. He was reported missing soon after.
The case received widespread media coverage and took a sensational turn late in June when Kaine filed for divorce from Mouton Horman and took out a restraining order against her.
Investigators had told Mr Harmon that they had discovered his wife had allegedly offered their landscaper 'a lot of money' to kill him.

Police had convinced the landscaper to talk with Mouton Horman about the plot while wearing a wire, but did not make an arrest because they felt they did not have enough evidence.

Today, detectives and FBI agents are still working on the case.
Kyron's parents are trying to rebuild their lives - Mr Horman in Portland and Mrs Young in nearby Medford - but they both say each day is a struggle.

Last known whereabouts: Skyline Elementary School, where Kyron was supposed to be attending classes on the day he vanished, June 4 in 2010

Meanwhile Mrs Young has said she intends to keep the billboards up in Roseburg for as long as possible.
Locals have been shocked by the case, with many finding it hard to believe Moulton Horman - the daughter of respected retired school teachers Larry and Carol Moulton - could be involved.
Jim Manley, who has lived next to the Moulton family for 15 years, told Lynne Terry of The Oregonian: 'We're all very concerned about Larry and Carol's well-being. We hope for some resolution to this so they can get along with their lives.'
He added: 'We've kind of had to live with it. But I don't know anybody who's saying we should run [Moulton Horman] off. We'd like to believe that she didn't do it.'
