| Parents: Video not of missing Calif. ManBy Christine Steele csteele@scsun-news.com Posted: 03/17/2011 SILVER CITY - Anica and Michael Ristovski, the parents of missing California man David Ristovski, said Wednesday that the person seen in a surveillance video at the Subway store inside Walmart is not their son.
The Ristovskis met with the Subway store owner and his wife, who came from El Paso to show them the video footage at the store Wednesday afternoon. A person commenting on the story on KRQE's website said he saw someone he thought was David Ristovski at 2 p.m. Monday buying a pretzel at the Walmart Subway. After viewing the footage, Michael Ristovski said that the person in the video was not his son. The man in the surveillance tape was seen pulling out his wallet and paying for the pretzel. David Ristovski's wallet and cell phone were found near the area where his car was found abandoned on Interstate-10 near Road Forks, N.M. and Stein, Ariz.
Ristovski, 33, of Los Angeles, apparently ran out of gas and called his fiancé in California at 11 a.m. March 9 and said he needed help, his mother Anica Ristovski said Tuesday. His vehicle was found abandoned on a back road north of I-10, eight miles northwest of Road Forks, and the last footprints of his were found west of Steins, near the Arizona-New Mexico border, said Sgt. Bill Thornock, with New Mexico State Police.
A Search and Rescue mission was launched for Ristovski late Saturday and ran throughout the night and all day Sunday with teams from Grant, Luna, and Do a Ana counties and Mesilla Valley and Organ Mountain
Technical Rescue but was suspended on Sunday after no confirmed sighting or trace of Ristovski was found in that area. The Cochise (Arizona) County Sheriff's Office also participated in the search for Ristovski, who is originally from Bosnia, since he was first reported missing on March 9. They continued the search through Sunday night, using infrared helicopters and dogs, but scaled back their search on Monday and suspended the search by Wednesday, said Sgt. David Noland, Search and Rescue Coordinator with Cochise County Sheriff's Office.
"We've pretty much exhausted everything we can," Noland said.
Possible sightings of Ristovski have been reported at the Pilot Station in Lordsburg, Mrs. Ristovski said, and he was reportedly seen walking along the railroad tracks on Friday. The trail went cold near the railroad tracks adjacent to Interstate 10 milepost 3.
Ristovski is six feet tall, 185 pounds, he has brown hair but shaves his head, and has brown eyes and a one-inch scar on the front right side of his head above his eye, his mother said. He is possibly wearing black sweat pants, a black hooded sweat shirt, a white T-shirt and gray Converse sneakers.
Ristovski has some mental health issues, his family said, and is off his medication.
Ristovski's parents put up flyers in truck stops off I-10 from Arizona to El Paso, Texas. He has an 11-month-old baby back in California.
"As long as we don't hear he is dead, we will hope," Mr. Ristovski said Wednesday. "If it takes us a year, two years ..."
His parents think he may have hopped a train or gotten a ride along the interstate.
"My biggest fear is that he's out there in the wilderness," Mr. Ristovski said.
If you think you have seen David Ristovski, call the Lordsburg State Police Office at (575) 546-6631.
