Haleigh's Stepmom Allegedly Failed Polygraph

Posted: 11:03 am EDT August 27, 2009Updated: 2:04 pm EDT August 27, 2009
PUTNAM COUNTY, Fla. -- The head of Texas EquuSearch says the woman who was the last to see missing 5-year-old Haleigh Cummings failed a polygraph test and failed it miserably. Tim Miller says she also failed voice analysis.

Misty Croslin-Cummings is now married to Haleigh's father. A couple of weeks ago, Putnam County investigators said they don't believe her story that a stranger took Haleigh from her bed and investigators say the polygraph test results are no surprise.

VIDEO REPORT: Stepmom Allegedly Failed Polygraph

On Haleigh's sixth birthday, Misty hung posters on a house in honor of her. At the time, she was positive Texas EquuSearch could help.

"I think they're gonna be able to put more stuff together," she said.

Tim Miller says Misty came to him to help with a new search, because she wanted a chance to clear her name. So he set up an independent polygraph test for her.

Miller says Misty "failed it miserably." Misty agreed to take the tests even though her attorney told her not to. Miller says she also failed voice analysis and did not cooperate with a hypnosis test.

The Putnam County Sheriff's Office is hardly shocked. They say Misty's account of the night in February, when the then 5-year-old girl disappeared, is sketchy and full of holes.

Miller gave the tests results to investigators.

"It indicated that Misty was, deception indicated is the official statement, which is no surprise to us. We've said all along that Misty has been inconsistent in her statements, um, and I agree with the point that was made by Tim Miller's investigator which is that Misty's consistency is inconsistent," a Putnam County deputy said.

Lie detectors are not admissible in court and investigators say there is nothing at this point to charge Misty in connection with Haleigh's disappearance.

"You know, we think that Misty needs to tell us some things, fill in some inconsistencies, but that's about as far as we're willing to go with that statement and we'll stop just short of saying, 'Well, therefore we have probable cause to make an arrest.' We don't. If we had probable cause to make an arrest at this point, I think we probably would have," the deputy said.

Misty was asked the following questions: "Did you intentionally withhold information regarding Haleigh's disappearance?" "Do you know what happened to Haleigh?" "Do you know where Haleigh is now?"

Misty responded "no" to all three questions and the results show she gave a 95 to 99 percent deceiving answer to all three.

Haleigh's Stepmom Takes Stress Test
Girl Vanished From Satsuma Home 6 Months Ago

August 28, 2009

ORLANDO, Fla. -- Misty Cummings, the person to last see Haleigh Cummings, told a private detective during a voice stress test this week that she is not hiding any information about the missing girl.

VIDEO: Misty Cummings' Stress Test

Haleigh disappeared from a Satsuma home while Misty Cummings, who was then the live-in girlfriend of the girl's father but has since married him, was asleep in the house. Haleigh was 5 years old when she vanished.

Misty Cummings, 17, said she volunteered to take the voice stress test in an effort to clear her name.

Video of the voice stress test, which was conducted by a private detective from Atlanta, was obtained by Local 6 News and the detective can be heard telling Misty Cummings that he thinks she's hiding information about the case.

"I can see it. There's things going on with you about Haleigh going missing that you know about and you're not telling anybody," the detective said.

"There's nothing that I'm not telling nobody. I told everybody everything that I know. I don't know what you're trying to get out of me," Misty Cummings said.

During the voice stress test, Misty Cummings denied doing anything to harm Haleigh, but she did say she suspects others may have played a role in the girl's disappearance.

"Why do you think your brother would take Haleigh?" the detective asked.

"Well, he's done something to me. The way he's been acting lately, it's really, really strange," said Misty Cummings, who added that her cousin or the family of Haleigh's biological mother could have been involved.

Misty Cummings said her husband, Ronald Cummings, the girl's father, had nothing to do with the disappearance. She also said that she's not been told about Haleigh's whereabouts.

"I have never been once told not to tell where Haleigh is. I don't care if somebody told me not to tell. If they want to kill me, they can kill me. They can have my life for her back any day," Misty Cummings said.

Earlier this week, Tim Miller the leader of the Texas-based group Equusearch that has looked for Haleigh, said that Misty Cummings has failed two lie detector tests.

The Putnam County Sheriff's Office has never said that Misty ever failed the polygraph tests that she took.

Expert: Misty Has Doubt About Haleigh's Dad
Jackelyn Barnard
Created: 8/28/2009 4:32:43 PM
Updated: 8/28/2009 5:28:04 PM
PUTNAM COUNTY, FL -- Six months after Haleigh Cummings disappeared, Misty Croslin-Cummings re-lives those last moments with a voice analysis expert and hypnosis expert.

Cummings spent more than 20 minutes under hypnosis. Most of the time was used to describe in detail those moments when Misty woke up and realized Haleigh was gone.

"We just looked and we searched and we couldn't find her," Cummings told the hypnosis expert.

The expert says Misty wasn't totally under and the test was inconclusive.

"I gave you the truth. I gave you everything that I got. If I knew more I would tell you," Misty told the expert.

More telling was the second test Misty did that same day, a layered voice analysis.

"I don't know why I woke up. I just woke up out of a deep sleep. I just woke up," said Misty. The expert, T.J. Ward, asked, "What did you notice?" Misty replied, "The kitchen light was on. All the lights were shut off when I went to bed. That kitchen light I knew was off when I went to sleep. The kitchen light was just glaring in my bedroom. So, I got up and went to the kitchen and that's when I noticed the back door was wide open."

For the next 20 minutes, Misty had a conversation with the expert, who was able to track her stress and movements.

"Do you know of any person that would bother Haleigh?" asked Ward. Misty replied, "I really didn't know a lot of people. I have suspicions, yeah."

Police have asked us not to release that part of the tape.

But it's what Misty did say during that section that raised a red flag for the voice expert. "You have knowledge of the person who has taken Haleigh. You need to think. You need to tell me the truth because I can see changes," Ward told Misty.

While fighting back tears, Misty said, "I've been trying to think. I've been thinking for six months. I don't know. I don't know if I seen something in my sleep. I don't know."

"There's something you are not telling me. Okay, I want you to tell me about it. I can see it. There's things about Haleigh you are not telling anybody," Ward told her.

"There's nothing I'm not telling nobody. I told everybody everything that I know. I don't know what you are trying to get out of me. I'm 17 years old. What do you think, come on how much can a 17 year old take?" Misty replied.

Misty was then asked about Ronald Cummings, Haleigh's dad and her new husband. It was that questioning which puzzled the expert.

"Ronald had nothing to do with his daughter. He loves his daughter more than anything in this world," Misty told Ward.

He then told her, "When I asked you that, it came up and said you are not sure. Why is there doubt in your mind?"

Misty replied, "I don't know. I don't know if there's doubt in my mind, really Ronald didn't have nothing to do with his daughter, I can tell you that."

Ward then asked Misty, "What do you think happened to Haleigh?"

Misty replied, "I don't know what's happened to her. I mean I don't think she's dead, and I don't think she's dead at all. Everyone keeps saying she could be, I don't think Haleigh's dead."

Ward then pressed Misty a little more, asking her if someone has threatened her not to say what happened to Haleigh.

"No, nobody told me nothing to say about Haleigh or nothing. I've never been once told not to tell where Haleigh is. I wouldn't care if someone told me not to tell I would still tell. I don't care if they want to kill me. Go ahead and kill me, they can have my life for her back any day."

New search for Haleigh may come Saturday
Haleigh's stepmom allegedly pointed out a patch of ground marked by a single plastic rose
Published: Friday, August 28, 2009 at 7:42 p.m.
Last Modified: Friday, August 28, 2009 at 7:42 p.m.

A comment Misty Croslin-Cummings allegedly made about investigators needing to double-check a patch of ground marked by a single plastic rose in their search for her missing stepdaughter, Haleigh Cummings, has motivated a private firm to begin scouring the area this morning.
Croslin-Cummings, 17, is said to have made the unrecorded comment while undergoing a lie-detector test, hypnosis session and voice stress test earlier this month. The head of the organization that paid for the tests said the stepmother of Haleigh -- the 6-year-old Putnam County girl missing since February -- was trying to clear her name when she agreed to the tests, yet failed each of them.

"She said there was a place that was not searched very well and that we should look for a red rose, and she gave us the location," said Steph Watts, who recorded the sessions for EquuSearch, a private Texas firm that founder and director Tim Miller said was contacted by Croslin-Cummings to help clear her name.

"We went and we looked, and we found it, and the next day we took them (Putnam County investigators) back there," Watts said. "I don't think they are going to dig where the rose is and find the body, but the fact that they went with us shows that they are following up on every lead."

The Putnam County Sheriff's Office has said it has followed about 4,000 leads so far in its search for Haleigh, whom Croslin-Cummings reported missing at 3:27 a.m. on Feb. 10.

Croslin-Cummings initially said she had put Haleigh and her younger brother to bed at about 8 p.m. on Feb. 9 in the same room where she went to sleep about two hours later. She was caring for the children because their father, Ronald Cummings, was working the night shift.

When Haleigh was reported missing, the Putnam County Sheriff's Office launched an Amber Alert and led a massive search that included boats, canine teams, four-wheelers, helicopters and horses.

In the months since Haleigh was last seen, investigators have said Cummings and Haleigh's mother, Crystal Sheffield, are not considered suspects.

On Friday afternoon, Putnam Sheriff's Maj. Gary Bowling weighed his words carefully in describing his agency's view of Croslin-Cummings' situation.

"No, I don't think we consider her a suspect," Bowling said. "We factually know that she is consistently inconsistent and we need some factual exactness about her activities the night before Haleigh disappeared until the morning when she was reported missing."

Croslin-Cummings did not respond to interview requests made Friday through her attorney, a friend and a family member. Without the knowledge or approval of her attorney or the Sheriff's Office, she reportedly asked Miller, the director of EquuSearch, to help her clear her name.

The firm was established nearly 10 years ago to assist in searches, especially after local law enforcement agencies are unable to sustain a search. Miller said Haleigh's family reached out to his firm "because they didn't think enough was being done to find her."

Croslin-Cummings then asked for something specific -- assistance clearing her name so that the search could focus on Haleigh, not on rumors about her, Miller said.

"She said she did not trust the cops and asked me if she could take a lie detector test or something," Miller said. "I told her that was out of the realm of what we did, but this was something that she felt would be helpful, and so we arranged it. This is the first time I have ever been put in a position like this. It has ended with Misty (Croslin-Cummings) not speaking to us. "

Miller said the polygraph that Croslin-Cummings underwent in Orlando on Aug. 19 "showed huge deceptions." When Croslin-Cummmings was told about the results, "she said she wanted to be hypnotized," Miller said. "My thought was 'Now where do we go?' My hopes were that she would have passed, but the opposite happened, so we arranged for the hypnosis and a voice analysis to be done at her husband's aunt's house in Welaka."

Apparently, Croslin-Cummings leaked the news about the pending hypnosis and analysis to some of her relatives, and the word spread quickly. Miller said there were lots of people in the yard of the aunt's home during the tests and that within a day or two, a variety of reporters began requesting interviews.

The sessions were taped and have since been distributed to media outlets around the state, including The Sun. The sessions reportedly were paid for by EquuSearch and recorded by Steph Watts, who distributed copies to reporters with the approval of EquuSearch.

Among those asking for a copy of the tapes and other materials was the Sheriff's Office, which phrased its request in the form of a search warrant, but the firm immediately handed them over, EquuSearch officials said.

Croslin-Cummings' attorney, Robert Fields of Palatka, downplayed the value of the materials.

"Everyone knows that if there was any merit, polygraphs and these sorts of things would be admissible in court," Fields said.

Fields also said that his understanding from conversations he had with Croslin-Cummings was that she agreed to the testing by EquuSearch because "she was told that if she did not take the exams, they (EquuSearch) would not bring any assets to the search." Miller has denied that allegation.

"We will be in Florida very, very soon to search for Haleigh," Miller said. "I am not a detective and did not want to be in the position this has put me in."

Those close to the case said EquuSearch will launch a search this morning at an undisclosed location in Putnam County.

Croslin-Cummings' results also put her attorney in an embarrassing position.

"This all kind of hit me out of the blue," Fields said. "My advice to her was 'Don't speak to any law enforcement without speaking to me first,' and I found it hard to imagine that a private party would be playing Magnum P.I."

Seventh Judicial Circuit Assistant State Attorney Christopher Kelly gave no indication that any arrest or other legal action is imminent.

"We have been in touch with the Sheriff's Office since the beginning, but this is still under investigation, so it is still in their hands," Kelly said.

Update: Saturday Search for Haleigh Over

PUTNAM COUNTY, FL -- EquuSearch completed their Saturday search without finding Haleigh Cummings but still calling the day a success.

Along with Putnam County officials, EquuSearch spent a hot Saturday searching an area previously covered. They deemed it a success because the reaquainted themselves with an area they will soon search again.

The teams were out again after a comment by Misty Croslin-Cummings revealed a possible new detail. According to the Gainesville Sun, Croslin-Cummings mentioned something about a fake rose and that was enough for EquuSearch to begin a new hunt for clues.

First Coast News has learned that EquuSearch is leading the operation and Putnam County officials are monitoring.

Croslin-Cummings made headlines again this week after taking independent polygraph, voice analysis and hypnosis tests to try to prove her innocence. According to Tim Miller of EquuSearch, Croslin-Cummings "miserably failed" the tests. The tests were video taped and the fake rose comment was made off camera.

Reporter's Notes: In Defense of Misty Cummings?

The last couple of weeks have been very busy covering the disappearance of 6-year-old Haleigh Cummings of Satsuma, FL. She was last seen by her babysitter-now stepmother Misty Croslin-Cummings on February 9, 2009 in her father's mobile home in Hermit's Cove area of Satsuma.

On August 17, 2009 --Haleigh's 6th birthday--The Putnam County Sheriff's Office issued a press release to inform the public that their office, the Florida Dept. of Law Enforcement and the FBI have been working non-stop on the case and to make some very big statements:

* This was not a stranger abduction
* Anyone who wants to help in the search for Haleigh may do so within the parameters of their legal authority
* Requests for anyone in the public who may know anything of Misty Croslin-Cummings whereabouts the night of Haleigh's abduction to come forward with that information to police

The statement regarding the belief that Haleigh was taken by someone known to the family is theory that has been floating through the community since the day the child disappeared.

The statement welcoming other searchers came on the same day that Haleigh's paternal grandmother, Teresa Neves, along with attorney Mark Nejame and Texas EquuSearch Director Tim Miller announced the would be working on behalf of the Cummings family to conduct additional searches for Haleigh in the weeks ahead.

However, it was the last statement in the press release issued by the Putnam County Sheriff's Office asking members of the public to come forward with any information on Misty Croslin-Cummings' whereabouts the night of the abduction that got things moving in high gear.

I brought that part of the statement to light on News/Talk 97.3 The SKY on CNN/Headline News' Nancy Grace Show shortly after that press release was issued.

Embedded video from CNN Video

Several days later, Misty Croslin-Cummings asks the director of Texas EquuSearch, Tim Miller, to arrange a polygraph session for her in order to get her name cleared. It backfires and Misty fails the the tests "miserably," according to Miller.

This comes to light again on News/Talk 97.3 The SKY and again on The Nancy Grace Show.

Friday night, Misty's brother was brought in for questioning by the Putnam County Sheriff's Office after statements she made indicated he might have had some knowledge in the abduction.

A fruitless search was conducted by Texas EquuSearch and several volunteers Saturday on a tract of land behind the trailer Haleigh's family lived in at the time of the abduction. Taken from a conversation between Misty and TES staffers, she said she thought the area where a plastic rose stood the grass on that tract had not been searched very well.

In Misty's Defense

Please think for a moment about Misty's life so far:

* Sexually abused at the hands of family members at a young age
* Very lacking education
* Describes her parents as drug users
* Says she's lived in cars before

This tells me she has a lot of issues trusting people, putting into words descriptions of traumatic incidents, the use of drugs to ease emotional pain is not regarded is a bad thing by what her parents have modeled and that she can and will survive not matter how difficult the environment around her.

Please ponder these possibilities:

* Suppose someone Misty had come in contact with the night of the abduction pulled a weapon on her
* Suppose this person or persons told her she and/or Haleigh will be killed if she said anything
* Suppose you are a 17-year-old girl who had been abused in the past and now this happened to you
* Suppose your fear of getting killed is suddenly your biggest concern
* Suppose you don't have the intellectual resources to be able to inform authorites without getting yourself killed

Perhaps Misty doesn't need a lawyer or jail time or another polygraph right now. Perhaps she needs an advocate.

Just think about it from this angle for a little bit and keep watching as this story quickly unfolds.

Bounty Hunter Padilla Makes Open Offer to Haleigh's Stepmom
Monday, 31 August 2009
TJ Hart

After a busy week in the Haleigh Cummings abduction case where the last person to see the 6-year-old Satsuma girl who's been missing since February failed her 4th polygraph, a Bounty Hunter involved in the Caylee Anthony case Sunday made an open offer to assist Misty Croslin Cummings, on a radio program.

Bloggernews.net's Simon and Jan Barrett host a weekly internet radio show on Sunday afternoons at 4pm ET where the topic has been the disappearance of Haleigh Cummings. This Sunday's panel included Emmy Award-winning journalist Art Harris, crime author Denny Griffin, Private Investigator WIlliam "Cobra" Staubs, Bounty Hunter Leonard Padilla and me, WSKY's TJ Hart.

The program recapped the week's events including Misty's failed polygraph test and other tests that she requested Texas EquuSearch to conduct in an attempt to clear her name, accusations her brother Tommy may have been connected and his subsequent questioning and a fruitless ground search on a piece of land marked by a plastic rose.

After the recap, I challenged listeners to think for a moment from the perspective of Misty whose life has impacted by sexual abuse at the hands of family members, a low level of education, being raised by drug addicted parents and who just might have been threatened with lethal force the night of Haleigh's abduction. I also brought up the idea that Misty might not need another polygraph or an attorney, but rather and advocate.

At that point of the program, host Simon Barrett injected Bounty Hunter Leonard Padilla into the conversation. Padilla agreed that Misty probably needs a friend right now.

I asked Padilla if he had any suggestions. He responded by offering his help to Misty if she wanted it.

Padilla suggested taking her away from her surroundings for safety reasons--perhaps flying her to Canada in order to get some straight answers and to provide her an attorney.

Journalist Art Harris added that Misty is fragile, scared and might be suffering from a form of Stockholm Syndrone righ now.

Leonard Padilla is also a figure in the Caylee Anthony case in Orlando.

New Interview, Search In Haleigh Case
Now 6-Year-Old Girl Disappeared In February

August 31, 2009

Investigators with the Putnam County Sheriff's Office conducted another interview and took part in another search over the weekend as they look for clues in the disappearance of Haleigh Cummings.

Officials said both were prompted by a private lie detector test given to Misty Cummings earlier this month.

Investigators spoke with Tommy Croslin, the brother of Misty Cummings. They interviewed him regarding comments Cummings made while she was being questioned during the lie detector test given by a private investigator.

Channel 4 was told that the test was set up through Equusearch, a search team that has helped in the efforts to find Haleigh.

Saturday, the Putnam County Sheriff's Office took part in a search with members of Equusearch. The search focused on an area mentioned by Cummings during the lie detector tests.

The sheriff's office said neither the interview, nor the search, provided investigators with any new information. Investigators also reviewed the videotapes of the latest lie detector tests, looking for any new leads in the case.

Investigators have said there has been no sign of Haleigh Cummings, now 6 years old, since she disappeared in February.

Anyone with information about Haleigh's disappearance is asked to call Crimestoppers at 888-277-TIPS.

Haleigh's Dad Defends His Wife On TV
Girl Vanished From Satsuma Home In February

September 1, 2009

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Ronald Cummings spoke on national TV Monday night, his first public comments since the private lie detector tests taken by his wife last week.

VIDEO: Haleigh's Dad Talks To Nancy Grace

Cummings appeared on CNN's "Nancy Grace" and was asked about the tests Misty Cummings took with the search group, Equusearch.

"Well, until I see more physical proof of what's going on, Ms. Nancy, my concerns are still keeping Haleigh's face on the TV," Ronald Cummings said to Grace.

Terry Shoemaker, Ronald's new attorney, said despite the negative light the tests have cast on his wife, Ronald Cummings stands behind her 100 percent, WJXT-TV in Jacksonville reported.

"He has no reason not to believe his wife at this point, and he's going to stand by her until something else comes up," Shoemaker said.

Even though it's been six months since Haleigh was last seen, Shoemaker said their focus now is to keep Haleigh's story alive, even if it means taking bad publicity along the way.

"If nothing else, it's gotten Haleigh's name back into the forefront of the media," Shoemaker said.

Ronald sent a message to the person who has his daughter Monday night.

"There's a loving family at home that needs her more than whoever has her, and you don't deserve her, so let her go so she can come home to where she belongs," Ronald Cummings said.

Ronald Cummings ‘If I had $35,000, I Would Have Haleigh Back”
By Steph

On August 28th, Misty Cummings’ father, Hank Croslin Sr., left a voicemail message for Tim Miller of Texas Equusearch claiming Ronald Cummings told him “If I had $35,000, I could have Haleigh back”. So Tim Miller reacted quickly, reaching out to people he knew who would help. Now another fellow Texan and friend of Millers, Roy Moffitt of Roy Moffitt Customized Fueling Inc. has stepped up to the plate and written a check to Ronald Cummings for $35,000.

So now that Tim Miller, who’s only concern is to find Haleigh Cummings, has got you the money, you and Hank Sr. can go get Haleigh, Ronald, and bring her home safely.

Also in another voicemail message Ronald Cummings mother Teresa Neves called Miller on August 18th saying Misty was “ready to crack” In her voicemail, Neves is concerned about Misty’s state of mind, saying she won’t even be in the same room as Ronald and leaves to talk on the phone privately and is acting “crazy” Neves urges Miller to come to Florida quickly because Misty ”is ready to crack”.

Haleigh's Mother Donates To Equusearch
Crystal Sheffield Says She Supports Group's Involvement In Search

POSTED: 11:28 am EDT September 2, 2009
UPDATED: 3:31 pm EDT September 2, 2009

PUTNAM COUNTY, Fla. -- The mother of missing child Haleigh Cummings said she supports the involvement of Equusearch in the search for her daughter and has made a donation to the Texas-based volunteer search group.

Crystal Sheffield said she and her family made the donation in Haleigh's name and encourage others to do the same.

"I still wake up every morning wondering if someone will call and tell me that Haleigh has been found and that she wants to see me. All I want is Haleigh back home. I would like to thank Tim Miller for trying to help find my daughter," Sheffield said in a press release.

Haleigh has been missing since February, when she was 5 years old. The girl was in her Putnam County home with Misty Croslin Cummings – who has since married her father Ronald Cummings – and disappeared at some point during the night.

There has been recent controversy involving Equusearch, its director Tim Miller and the Cummings. Miller said he invited the Cummings to Orlando to clear their heads. While they were there he said Misty Cummings -- who had fallen under suspicion in the girl's disappearance -- asked to take voice analysis and polygraph tests in order to help find Haleigh and clear her name, which she failed. The Cummings, however, said that Miller tricked them, took away their cell and pressured Misty Cummings to take the tests.

Investigators now have those test results. They said they show Misty Cummings is withholding information.

Misty Cummings and Tim Miller of Texas Equusearch
Misty Cummings keeps Tim Miller of Texas Equusearch along with Law Enforcement running from search site to search site.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
PRLog (Press Release) – Sep 02, 2009 – Seattle, WA – Psychic Rita Estelle on her website www.LifesPassages.com, has stated from day one that Misty Cummings holds the key to the whereabouts of Haleigh Cummings.

In an interview with Rita Estelle, she stated, “Misty Cummings is enjoying the spotlight, and relishes in the fact that she can keep people, such as Law Enforcement and Texas Equusearch hopping from one search site to another.”

“Misty is an ace manipulator, reads people well and will change her story depending on who she may be talking with and that persons reaction.

“Misty has never told the truth,” said Psychic Rita Estelle.

According to Rita Estelle, the next time Misty needs a trip out of Satsuma, she will come up with again another bit of information.

On Psychic Rita Estelle’s website she lists additional details to the kidnapping of Haleigh Cummings and she says that some information has been omitted from the website due to the on going investigation.

According to Rita Estelle, the key is Misty, with a link to the Croslin family.

Investigators have said there has been no sign of Haleigh, now 6 years old, since she disappeared in February.

Anyone with information about Haleigh’s disappearance is asked to call CrimeStoppers at 888-277-TIPS

Audio Tape : Misty's Brother Hank Croslin

Would $35,000 Haleigh Get Back? Calls from Croslin, Neves

RAW AUDIO: TIM MILLER AND TJ HART

There is another bizzare turn of events in the disappearance of 6-year old Haleigh Cummings. The father Misty Croslin-Cummings, Haleigh's babysitter-now stepmom who was supposed to be watching the child the night she disappeared, left a strange message on the phone of Texas Equusearch Director Tim Miller claiming Ronald Cummings needs $35,000 to get the child back!

Recently Tim Miller with Texas Eqqusearch was asked to once again help search for the child. Two weeks ago, Misty Cummings asked Miller to arrange a polygraph to clear her of suspsicion since police had publicly said her stories of the night in question are inconsistent.

Misty failed both the polygraph and a voice stress test. She is now saying she was duped into taking the tests.

On August 28th, Misty Cummings’ father, Hank Croslin Sr., left a voicemail message for Miller claiming Ronald Cummings told him "If I had $35,000, I could have Haleigh back."

AUDIO: Hank Croslin Sr.'s Voice Message

Miller sought the help of a fellow Texan and friend of Millers, Roy Moffitt of Roy Moffitt Customized Fueling Inc.. Moffit has since written a check to Ronald Cummings for $35,000 payable upon the safe return of Haleigh.

The Sky's TJ Hart asked Miller what exactly the $35,000 was for. Miller said he was only concerned about getting missing Haleigh back and that he "didn't give a damn."

Hart now has in his posession and has forwarded copies of telephone messages of Croslin making the $35,000 claim and another one from Ronald Cumming mother Teresa Neves from August 18th.

Cape family questioned about missing Fla. girl

September 06, 2009

SOUTH YARMOUTH — A local family has been questioned regarding the disappearance of a 6-year-old girl from Florida more than six months ago, according to law enforcement officials.

Deputies from a Florida sheriff's office questioned the local couple yesterday afternoon at the South Yarmouth state police barracks in relation to the Feb. 10 disappearance of Haleigh Cummings, state police Sgt. Robert Finacom said. He referred all other questions to Cape and Islands District Attorney Michael O'Keefe.

"This is an ongoing investigation and the state police detectives assigned to my office are assisting the Florida authorities," O'Keefe said last night.

"I'm not going to make any comments regarding an ongoing investigation."

Haleigh disappeared in the middle of the night from her home in Satsuma, Fla. Her father's girlfriend, 17-year-old Misty Croslin, put her to bed and was the last person to see the youngster. Haleigh's father, Ronald Cummings, 25, was at work when she disappeared, according to published reports.

The case has received national attention, but there have been no arrests.

Haleigh Cummings – Action Moves To Massachusetts
Posted on September 6th, 2009
by Simon Barrett in crime

The Cape Cod Times are running an article that officers from a Florida Sheriffs office interviewed a local couple about the February 10th disappearance of then five year old Haleigh Cummings. The Cape Cod Times said:

Deputies from a Florida sheriff’s office questioned the local couple yesterday afternoon at the South Yarmouth state police barracks in relation to the Feb. 10 disappearance of Haleigh Cummings, state police Sgt. Robert Finacom said. He referred all other questions to Cape and Islands District Attorney Michael O’Keefe.

Details are sketchy as to the identity of this couple. The South Yarmouth duty officer would not provide any hard information other than confirm that an interview had indeed taken place. He suggested that we should contact the detective involved for any additional information.

The timing of this interview has piqued my interest, if it was merely an anonymous tip, one of the 4000 plus that have been received by the Putnam County Sheriffs Office it would seem unlikely that they would follow it up on a long weekend. So the question becomes, is this a new tip? And if it is, where did it come from? Could it be as a result of the recent round of re-questioning the family members?

The timing also means that the press can effectively be stonewalled until Tuesday, is something afoot?

I have just got off a conference call with TJ Hart and William “Cobra” Staubs, and an interesting but maybe coincidental piece of information came to light. As best we can tell Misty Croslin’s older brother Timmy and his wife moved to Massachusetts some two months ago. Anecdotal stories claim that the move was because the state offered better social programs.

More information when we get it. Hopefully we will have an update for our radio program later today.

Simon Barrett

New search for Haleigh may come today
Haleigh's stepmom allegedly pointed out a patch of ground marked by a plastic rose.

By Karen Voyles
Staff writer

Published: Saturday, August 29, 2009 at 6:01 a.m.
Last Modified: Friday, August 28, 2009 at 10:34 p.m.

The head of the organization that paid for the tests said the stepmother of Haleigh - the 6-year-old Putnam County girl missing since February - was trying to clear her name when she agreed to the tests, yet failed each of them.

Croslin-Cummings then asked for something specific - assistance clearing her name so that the search could focus on Haleigh, not on rumors about her, Miller said.

Croslin-Cummings' attorney, Robert Fields of Palatka, downplayed the value of the material.
