The Doña Ana County Sheriff's Department is seeking the public's assistance in finding a woman and her four childen, who have been missing since a custody hearing on Sept. 29.

A warrant has been issued for the arrest of Sylvia M. Barrett, 32, of Las Cruces, charging her with four counts of unlawful interference with custody.

The children, Charles Valentine, 14; Joshua Valentine, 7; Marcus Valentine, 14; and Madilynn Valentine, 9, may be with their mother and an adult male. They may be in a 1997 Plymouth Voyager with New Mexico plate, JXG 709, officials said.

LAS CRUCES (krwg) - The Dona Ana County Sheriff's Department is seeking the public's assistance in locating a woman and her four children missing since September 29, 2009.

A warrant has been issued for the arrest of SYLVIA M. BARRETT, age 32, of the 3115 block of Camino Real, Las Cruces, charging her with four counts of Unlawful Interference with Custody, each a fourth degree felony. Bond has been set at $50,000.00 cash.

BARRETT lost custody of her four children when she failed to show for a Custody hearing on September 29.

The children, CHARLES (Charlie) VALENTINE, age 14, JOSHUA (Josh) VALENTINE, age 7, MARCUS VALENTINE, age 14 and MADILYNN (Madi) VALENTINE, age 9, may be in the company of their mother and an adult male and may be driving a 1997 Plymouth Voyager, teal in color, displaying New Mexico License Plate JXG 709.

It is believed they may still be in Las Cruces or the surrounding area.

Arrest warrant issued for 32-year-old mother charging custodial interference.

The Dona Ana County Sheriff's Office is looking for 32-year-old Sylvia M. Barrett of Las Cruces and her four children after an arrest warrant was issued for Barrett charging her with four felony counts of unlawful interference with custody, the Las Cruces Sun-News reported.

Barrett lost custody of her four children after failing to appear at a custody hearing on Sept. 29, the Sun-News said.

The children -- 7-year-old Joshua "Josh" Valentine; 9-year-old Madilynn "Madi" Valentine; and 14-year-old twins, Marcus and Charles "Charlie" Valentine -- may be in the company of their mother and an unknown man in a teal 1997 Plymouth Voyager with New Mexico license number JXG-709, authorities told the Sun-News.

Sheriff's officials believe they may still be in Dona Ana County or possibly in the Deming area, the paper reported.

DASO: Mother Still On The Run With Her Children

LAS CRUCES, N.M. -- Since Sept. 29, the Dona Ana County Sheriff's Department said a warrant was been issued for the arrest of Sylvia M. Barrett after she lost custody of her four children and failed to show up to a custody hearing. Authorities said she may has last been seen at her residence at the 3115 block of Camino Real Street. And while a $50,000 bond has already been set and she now faces four fourth-degree felony charges of unlawful interference with custody, the biological father of the children worries.

“Overwhelming, fearful, scared,” said Jason Valentine, the biological father of the four missing children.

Valentine who now resides in Gallup, N.M., realizes this heart-ache and drama was all cause by a custody battle and that in the end there are no winners, only losers especially at the expense of the children who are innocent.

“The kids, myself and Sylvia have all lost in this event,” said Valentine. “I’m very scared that they're going to be traumatized and there’s going to be a very immediate trauma with this situation.”

And since it's been almost four weeks since the kids have been gone, Valentine is also worried about their education and all the school they're currently missing.

“That just compounds to the concern of, are they going to be able to recover? Or are they going to have to stay back a grade because of this?” said Valentine.

Of course, there are two sides to every story. Barrett's current husband has spoke to KFOX and has said Valentine is unfit to be the children’s parent and his wife should've never lost custody. Valentine even admits he's been accused of being an abusive father, physically and even sexually, but said those are false accusation and he has the documentation that proves it. Barrett’s current husband was supposed to talk to KFOX Thursday, but said his lawyer advised him otherwise at the last minute.
