More than 100 police, fire and EMS personnel along with volunteers from San Antonio and Austin combed a New Braunfels neighborhood for an 18-month-old toddler missing since Friday night.
“We are trying to be optimistic, but it was very cold last night,” said New Braunfels Police Lt. Michael Penshorn of the overnight search for Joshua Davis.
Authorities are pursuing the idea that the child, who has been described as very mobile and who has been walking for about 10 months, may have wandered away from his parents' mobile home in the 2600 block of Savannah Hill Circle.
Police were summoned to the trailer park shortly before 8:40 p.m. Friday and a search involving local law enforcement was launched. Officials were told the child had last been seen inside the home about 20 minutes before police were called.
Police searched inside the home several times and then undertook a house-to-house search as a Texas Department of Public Safety helicopter searched the area from above.
He said volunteers turned out to assist after more than 2,000 area residents were alerted via the Emergency Notification System.
Law enforcement remained onsite overnight, Penshorn said.
Early Saturday, aided by volunteers from the San Antonio-based Heidi Search Center, Alamo Area Search and Rescue and Travis County Search and Rescue units, local law enforcement expanded the search area to an open field and nearby woods, he said.
“The child appears to be very mobile, and the fear is that he may have just wandered off,” Penshorn said.
The child was described as being 2 feet tall and weighing 30 pounds. He was last seen wearing a blue and red, long sleeve shirt, a grey long sleeve t-shirt, beige jeans and black and white socks.
Search coordinators and the various groups were staging at Klein Road Elementary School.
Anyone locating the child or who knows of his whereabouts is asked to contact New Braunfels police at (830) 221-4100.

Joshua Davis: Missing Texas Toddler Abducted? (Video)

New Braunfels, Texas
Joshua Davis, 18 months old, was discovered missing from his home around 8:40 PM, local time on Friday, February 4, 2011.
The tiny tot has been the focus of a massive search since Friday evening. Police do not suspect foul play at this time, but Joshua’s mother, Sabrina Benitez, 23, believes someone abducted her son.
Now in its third day, the search has been classified as a recovery operation. Authorities feel the toddler could not have survived the frigid temperatures of the last two nights.
Read more about this missing toddler and view the video below.

The search and rescue effort for missing toddler Joshua Davis Jr. has now turned into a recovery mission on its third day. Police and the boy’s parents disagree on what happened to the tot.
Authorities feel the child wandered off, pointing out that the glass front door had been left open that evening and also would not latch. Sabrina Benitez, the baby’s mother, feels someone visiting their home Friday evening kidnapped Joshua. She said this person has already changed their story, but police are not pursuing her theory.
Officials believe the child simply wandered off, possibly following someone out the door of the home, located in south Comal County near W. Klein Road and S. Walnut Avenue. They did investigate a registered sex offender across the street and cleared him. The police were notified of Joshua’s disappearance within 20 minutes of his last being seen.
Ms. Benitez became distraught after the search was changed to a recovery, and is quite critical of the police. Police feel common sense dictates the child would not survive the frigid weather and rugged terrain—-he was not wearing shoes or warm clothing when he vanished.
The parents also point out that Joshua’s baseball was found on top of their mailbox yesterday—-since it had not been there prior to then, they feel that gives credence to their theory of an abduction.

Investigators suspect the child may have wandered from his home after a family friend left Friday night. The family fears an abductor may be behind the child’s disappearance.
“He’s very outgoing. He likes to play and he’s smart,” said Joshua Davis’ mother, Sabrina Benitez.
“I don’t understand how he could wander off,” said Joshua Davis’ father, Josh Davis.
“My days have been long, haven’t slept, and I’ve been looking for my baby. I want him home safe,” Benitez said.
Joshua Davis Jr. weighs about 30 pounds, is 2 feet tall with dark brown hair and eyes. He was last seen wearing a blue and red long sleeve shirt and grey long-sleeve T-shirt, a beige and white onesie, beige jeans and black and white socks. Joshua also suffers from asthma.
You’re urged to call 911 or (830) 221.4570 (830)221.4100 if you have any information on the missing toddler.
New Braunfels has about 60,000 residents and is roughly 30 miles NE of San Antonio.
What do you think? Did 18 month old Joshua Davis just wander outside in his socks, go down icy steps in the freezing cold and get lost? Or is there something more sinister going on?
I’m troubled by the baseball being left atop the mailbox, as well as the parent’s suspect changing his story.
Could this baby still be alive?
If someone did take the tot, Josh Davis Sr. has this to say to them:
“I just want my son. I could care less who did it. In fact if they do find out, I don’t even want to know who did it. I just want my son back, that’s all I want.”

I think that’s what we’re all praying for.
Please leave your thoughts in the comment section beneath the video, and check back for updates.

One Week Later: Searchers Seeking More Tips on Missing Toddler

Joshua Davis (18 mos.) 2/5/11 New Braunfels, Texas Missing%20-%20Joshua_Davis%202_2.thumbnail

(New Braunfels, TX) -- K-9 dog teams continued searching areas around the home of missing 18-month old Joshua Davis Jr. yesterday, but they also searched areas far from his home, on the other side of town. For the 2nd time in the last week, investigators were back in the area of Hunter Road and Country Ridge Drive with dog search teams scouring more densely wooded areas, searching for signs of the missing boy. New Braunfels Police officials wouldn’t say specifically why they were in that area yesterday, but did say that they were following up on any and all tips they get from the public, and that yesterday’s search off Hunter Road was one of those places they were following up on.
At 8:30 tonight, 18-month old Joshua Davis Jr. will have been missing for 1 full week. New Braunfels Police officers were on scene within minutes of the initial phone call reporting him missing, and immediately began searching the neighborhood and fields off Klein Road and Walnut on one of the coldest nights this winter. That search, and the questioning of family and friends that were at the home the night the boy disappeared, continued into the next morning, when over 100 community volunteers showed up to help look for the missing toddler. And over the last week, the search has now covered a full 2-square mile radius surrounding the boy’s home, the boy’s parents have been interviewed a number of times by police, along with other family members, friends, and neighbors.
Police officials continue to ask for tips from the public. If you have a tip for investigators, call New Braunfels Police directly at 221-4100 or call Crimestoppers anonymously at 620-TIPS. You could be eligible for a cash reward of up to 5-thousand dollars. And stay tuned to AM 1420, or log on to kgnb.am, for continued updates on the search for Joshua Davis Jr, 18-months old, last seen wearing a blue and red long sleeve shirt, with a grey long sleeve t-shirt, a beige and white onesy, beige jeans, and black and white socks. He stands about 2-feet tall and weighs about 30 pounds.

Police Release New Photo of Missing Toddler Taken Hours Before Disappearance~

Joshua Davis (18 mos.) 2/5/11 New Braunfels, Texas Missing%20-%20Joshua_Davis%203.thumbnail

(New Braunfels, TX) -- A new photo (right) of Joshua Davis Jr., taken just hours before his disappearance, was released on Friday by New Braunfels Police. The toddler has been missing for more than a week after he presumably wandered out of his home in the 26-hundred block of Savannah Hill Circle. Police officials say the photo released Friday pictures the boy in the exact clothes he was wearing the night he disappeared, and you can see that photo on the front page of our website, kgnb.am. So far, no sign of the missing 18-month old has been found, despite a massive search effort that has included everything from K-9 ground searches, to DPS helicopter and aerial drone flyovers, to dive teams searching nearby lakes and stock ponds; all to no avail. Around the middle of last week, police investigators announced that although those search teams will continue their work, the focus of their efforts has shifted to more of an investigative mode. Specifically, forensic teams from the FBI have been scouring over evidence collected from the boy's home, from the parents of the toddler, other family members, friends of the family, and neighbors. And police officials say they are relying now, more than ever, on tips from the public in the continued search for the missing boy. If you have any information for investigators, call New Braunfels Police directly at 221-4100 or call Crimestoppers anonymously at 620-TIPS or log on to the Comal County Crimestoppers website. You could be eligible for a cash reward of up to 5-thousand dollars.

Joshua Davis Jr. Missing: Texas Toddler Mysteriously Disappears from Home Full of People~

(CBS/KENS/AP) Police aided by state officers and bloodhounds continued searching for 18-month-old Hill Country child Joshua Davis Jr., who was reported missing by his family Friday evening.

New Braunfels police Lt. Michael Penshorn says searchers removed the skirts Monday from the crawlspaces beneath the homes in the mobile home park where the family lives. Penshorn says a parallel criminal investigation also is under way into the circumstances behind the boy's disappearance.

"We have been receiving some tips throughout the past several days," Penshorn told CBS affiliate KENS. "As we get those tips, we're following up with them specifically, whether it's a search team checking a specific area or just interviewing someone that may know something in relation to this case."

The 18-month-old vanished at about 8 p.m. Friday. He was last seen inside the family's mobile home with six other people.

The family believes someone may have snatched him, reports KENS.

Penshorn said he had no information on the details, but the family was cooperating.

Penshorn had said Sunday that the search had changed to a recovery effort after hopes dimmed for the child after a weekend of subfreezing weather.

Police: Someone is not telling all about missing boy
February 27, 2011
NEW BRAUNFELS - The search for Joshua J. Davis has taken investigators across state lines, seeking information.

And authorities believe that someone, somewhere, knows more than they're telling about the toddler's Feb. 4 disappearance.

Lt. John McDonald of the New Braunfels Police Department criminal investigation division said FBI investigators have been talking to individuals far away from the Savannah Hill Circle neighborhood where 18-month-old Joshua vanished into thin air three weeks ago.

McDonald said the FBI has talked to individuals out of state who might have knowledge about the personalities of individuals connected to the case in some way.

"There's probably nothing more serious than a child case," he said. "Every day we chase new leads that come in."

This week, a fresh batch of rumors were circulating that Joshua had been found, but as of 10:30 p.m. Wednesday, according to dispatch, there was no new information in the case.

The leads are, for the most part, consistent in the areas they recommend searching or scenarios they recommended exploring, McDonald said.

"I do believe there are people out there who know some facts that we don't have, and I urge them to come forward," McDonald said.

Continues...

No new leads in the case of missing toddler

Authorities acknowledged Wednesday that they are no closer to locating missing toddler Joshua Davis Jr. than the evening he vanished without a trace from his New Braunfels home three weeks ago.

Police have interviewed all of the people who were at the mobile home that night, and all were cooperating with authorities, New Braunfels police Lt. Mark Penshorn said

“We are looking at all possibilities at this point,” he said. “We have been following up on all tips.”

The case is being handled by his department in conjunction with the FBI and Texas Rangers.

The 18-month-old boy has been missing since Feb. 4 from a mobile home full of adults, including his parents, on the city's southern edge. The night they received the report, officers began an immediate search. The next day, braving freezing temperatures, hundreds of volunteers combed fields near the home.

Joshua Davis: Missing New Braunfels toddler still missing

The toddler that disappeared from his parent's home two months ago is still missing and his parents are asking the public to keep looking for him.
"I miss holding him at night. I miss him crying in the night for his cup. I miss waking up to his morning kisses," said Sabrian Benitez, Joshua's mother.
Joshua Davis went missing on February 4th and it was thought that he walked out of the mobile home where he lived. A search began that night and continued for weeks, with volunteers, search teams, dogs and helicopters, but Joshua was not found.
The FBI talked to everyone and went over evidence while police searched homes and outbuildings for Joshua. A reward of $22,000 still stands but there has been no sighting of Joshua.
The parents suspect a man that has declined to take a polygraph test and never helped in the search and is now avoiding the family, may know something. The man, who has not been identified, has also hired an attorney. Joshua was missing right after the man left and when questioned he gave conflicting stories and said that Joshua tried to follow him out the door.
The police are still working on the case and still searching for Joshua. Joshua's mother still believes he is out there and is asking for the public to keep an eye out for him.

If you have any information that could lead to his return, contact New Braunfels Police at 830-221-4100.
